Getting started
Running a service, step by step
The Sunday morning routine on the church Mac, from opening KERYX to publishing the sermon.
On this page
This is the every-week routine for whoever runs KERYX on Sunday. It assumes the church Mac is already set up (projector, mixer, camera, stream key). If this is your first Sunday, start with Your first Sunday with KERYX.
Step 1: Open KERYX and load the service
- Open KERYX on the church Mac. It pulls the latest songs, services, and announcements from KERYX Web on its own.
- On the Services screen, open this Sunday's service. If you plan in Planning Center, click Import next plan from Planning Center (download-arrow button in the top bar) instead.
- Check the Service Order on the left. Every song, reading, and item should be there in order. The Announcements deck sits at the top automatically.
Step 2: Check the screens
- In the top bar, confirm Projector is set to the display the congregation sees and Stage to the confidence monitor.
- Click the Logo button above Live Output · Projector. The room should see the church logo. If it's hard to see, switch Settings → General → Holding slide background to White.
Step 3: Check the camera and sound
- Under Stream Preview, click Start Preview. The camera picture should appear.
- Have the band or a speaker make some noise and watch the Audio · Input Level meter move. If it doesn't, see Audio and camera.
- Frame the shot now, before anyone is watching.
Step 4: Start the pre-service loop
- Click the Announcements item in the Service Order, then click its first slide.
- The deck loops on its own until you click something else. No need to stay at the Mac.
- Set Stream layout to Starting soon so online viewers see the announcements too; switch back to Auto when the service starts.
Step 5: Go live
About 5 minutes before the service starts:
- Click Start Stream. The status next to it should read Live within a few seconds.
- Click Start Recording. A REC badge appears on the stream preview.
Streaming and recording are separate. Make sure both are running.
Step 6: Run the service
- Click an item in the Service Order, then click a slide in the Slide Picker on the right. Whatever you click is on the projector, stage display, and stream right away.
- Click the next slide as the song or reading moves along. To run from an iPad or phone with Advance and Back buttons, use the Companion.
- Between items, use Logo or Black above the Live Output preview. Clicking any slide brings the screen back.
- Leave Stream layout on Auto. It picks the right look for online viewers by itself.
- For a break, pick Be right back. It mutes the stream (and the recording) until you pick another layout.
If the status by Stop Stream reads Reconnecting, leave it alone. KERYX keeps retrying, and the recording keeps going. See Troubleshooting for anything else.
Step 7: Wrap up
- After the benediction, click Logo.
- Click Stop Stream, then Stop Recording. Stop both.
- Open Recordings (clapperboard button) to find today's recording. Use Trim & publish to cut the sermon and send it to the podcast and YouTube. See Publishing.
- Quit KERYX.
If the control window goes blank
If the KERYX window shows KERYX hit an error, the projector and stream are still running. Click Reload KERYX (or press Cmd+R) to get the controls back, then pick up where you were. Click Copy error and send it to support so it gets fixed.
