Getting started
Your first Sunday with KERYX
A checklist from the week before through after the service, for a church running KERYX for the first time.
On this page
This is the run of show for a first Sunday on KERYX — what to do the week before, what to set up once at the church, and what to check before, during, and after the service. After the first week, the short version is Running a service, step by step.
The week before: plan on the web
- Sign in at keryx.samuraicode.ai.
- Build the service: add songs, scripture, and media in the order they'll run. See Web planning, Services, Songs, Scripture, and Media.
- Update the Google Slides announcements deck. KERYX pulls it onto the Mac by itself. See Media → Announcements.
- If your church runs its plans through Planning Center, see Planning Center instead of building from scratch.
Setup at church (do this once)
Do this the first time KERYX runs on the projection Mac. Most of it only needs revisiting if hardware changes.
- Install KERYX and sign in to KERYX Cloud so the service you planned on the web syncs down automatically. See Install and update.
- Connect the projector and any stage monitor, then in the toolbar at the top of KERYX's Edit screen, use the Projector and Stage dropdowns to assign Projector to the display the congregation sees and Stage to the confidence monitor, if you have one.
- Connect the audio mixer and pick it under Settings → Audio & Camera → Audio input → Device. Set the channel pair carrying the service mix, and adjust Gain if the input runs quiet.
- Connect the camera and pick it under Settings → Audio & Camera → Camera → Device, then set resolution and frame rate.
- Set your streaming destination under Settings → Streaming (Facebook Live, YouTube, or a custom RTMP URL) with your stream key.
- Choose where recordings save under Settings → Recording.
- Set a companion PIN under Settings → Companion if you want to run the service from an iPad or phone. See Companion.
See Audio and camera, Streaming, and Recording for the full detail on each of these.
Before the service
- Open KERYX and confirm it loaded the right service from the Services screen.
- Confirm the projector and stage windows are showing on the right displays.
- Click Start Preview under Stream Preview to bring up the camera, and confirm the Audio · Input Level meter beneath it is moving.
- Use that preview to frame the camera shot before you're live. If your platform lets you check the incoming feed (e.g. Facebook's or YouTube's live dashboard), confirm video and audio are actually arriving, then stop before the service starts.
During the service
- Run the service from Edit mode — advance through the Service Order, sending each slide to the projector and stage.
- Watch the status next to the Stop Stream button while you're live — Live, Reconnecting, or a stream error.
- If something goes wrong, see Troubleshooting.
After the service
- Click Stop Stream and Stop Recording — they're independent, so make sure you stop both.
- Open Recordings to find the service you just ran, and use Trim & publish to cut the start/end and export. See Recording and Publishing for what happens with the exported file (podcast, YouTube, etc.).
