This page covers the media library, what file types it accepts and how it prepares them for the projector, backgrounds, and the announcements deck.

#The media library

Open it from the toolbar's Media Library icon (film reel), or from Add to Service → Media.

  • Import Files… opens a file picker — pick any number of files of any supported type in one go.
  • Files land in Unfiled until you organize them. Drag a card's Move to folder action to file it under a folder path (e.g. Backgrounds or Series/Easter); folders can be nested and renamed.
  • Each card shows a thumbnail (or a generic icon if none was generated), a type badge (IMG, VID, AUD, PDF, DOC), and — for a video or a multi-page document — a VIDEO badge or a page count like "12p".
  • Hovering a card reveals Remove file, Move to folder, and rename actions.

#Supported file types

Kind Formats
Images JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP, BMP, TIFF, SVG, HEIC, AVIF
Video MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WEBM, M4V, TS, MTS, WMV, FLV
Audio MP3, WAV, AAC, M4A, FLAC, OGG, AIFF
Documents PDF, PowerPoint (PPT/PPTX), Keynote (KEY), Word (DOC/DOCX), Pages, RTF, Excel/OpenDocument formats

Slide decks and other documents are converted to PDF and then rasterized into page images, so a PowerPoint or Keynote presentation becomes a set of full-page slides you can step through like any other item.

Warning: That conversion runs through LibreOffice (soffice) installed on the Mac, not a bundled converter. If LibreOffice isn't installed, KERYX fails silently rather than erroring — the file still imports, but with no pages to show. Install LibreOffice once on the presentation Mac so PowerPoint, Keynote, and Word imports actually produce slides.

#HEIC and HEVC handling

Two formats iPhones produce natively don't render in KERYX's projector output, so they're converted automatically on import — you never have to do this yourself:

  • HEIC/HEIF photos are converted to PNG.
  • Video in a codec the projector can't play (most notably HEVC/H.265 from a phone) is transcoded to H.264/AAC. This uses the Mac's hardware encoder, but a large phone video can still take a little while — the Import Files… button shows Importing… for the whole batch until every file, including any transcodes, finishes.

Note: There's no separate "processing" indicator per file — the button just stays on Importing… until the whole import finishes, then every card appears ready at once.

#Backgrounds

The Background button in the Edit screen toolbar (or Add to Service when building a designed slide) opens a picker with five tabs: Solid, Gradient, Animated, Image, and Video. Solid and gradient offer preset swatches plus a custom color picker; Animated offers a handful of motion effects; Image and Video pull straight from your media library (import files there first if the list is empty). A live 16:9 preview at the top of the picker shows exactly what you're about to apply.

#Announcements

Announcements come from one Google Slides deck that the church office keeps up to date. Nobody rebuilds them in KERYX.

  1. Make the weekly deck in Google Slides.
  2. Share it with the church Google account connected under Settings → Publishing (or set it to "Anyone with the link can view").
  3. Paste its link into Settings → Slides & Bibles → Announcements → Google Slides link.

KERYX pulls the deck when it opens and every 10 minutes after that, into one media item called Announcements. Edit the deck in Google Slides and the change shows up on Sunday without touching the Mac. Click Refresh now in the same settings section to pull it right away.

With Pin to every service on (the default), every service you open gets the Announcements item at the top. Click any of its slides and the deck loops on its own, advancing every Seconds per slide (30 by default), until you click something else.

If the deck won't pull, KERYX tells you why: usually the deck isn't shared with the connected Google account, or the Google connection needs a Reconnect to allow reading Slides. See Troubleshooting.
