Getting started

Install and update KERYX

Download KERYX, install it on the church Mac, sign in to KERYX Cloud, and keep it up to date.

  • How updates work

This page covers getting KERYX onto the Mac that runs the service, the permissions it asks for, and how it updates itself afterward.

#System requirements

KERYX runs on Apple Silicon Macs only — that's the one requirement stated on the download page. There's no separate installer for Intel Macs.

#Download KERYX

  1. Go to keryx.samuraicode.ai/download.
  2. This page needs you to be signed in — if you're not, it sends you to sign in first.
  3. Click Download next to the current build (marked latest).

Note: The download uses the same team account as the rest of keryx.samuraicode.ai — there's nothing separate to set up here.

#Install

  1. Open the downloaded DMG and drag KERYX into Applications (drag it over the old copy if you're updating manually).

  2. macOS will say the app is "damaged" the first time you open it. It isn't — this is Gatekeeper quarantining an unsigned download. Open Terminal and run:

    xattr -cr /Applications/KERYX.app

Then launch KERYX normally. You only need to do this once per install or manual update.

#First launch and permissions

On a fresh install, macOS will ask for two permissions:

Permission Why KERYX needs it
Camera "KERYX captures the camera feed (Cam Link) for live streaming and recording."
Microphone "KERYX captures service audio (StudioLive USB) for live streaming and recording."

Click Allow for both. If you click the wrong thing by mistake, fix it under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera (or Microphone) and re-launch KERYX.

Note: KERYX doesn't ask for Screen Recording access — the projector and stage outputs are ordinary windows moved onto those displays, not a screen capture.

#Sign in to KERYX Cloud

Signing in connects this Mac to KERYX Cloud, so services and songs planned on the web sync down automatically.

  1. In KERYX, open Settings → Accounts.
  2. Under KERYX Cloud, enter your team email and click Send code.
  3. Check that inbox for a 6-digit code — it comes from KERYX Cloud's email sender and is valid for 1 hour.
  4. Enter the code and click Connect.

Once connected, the Accounts pane shows Syncing as <your email> along with the current sync health. Click Sign out to disconnect this Mac from KERYX Cloud.

Tip: This is the same account you sign in with at keryx.samuraicode.ai — nothing extra to create.

#How updates work

KERYX checks for updates automatically, but only once this Mac is signed in to KERYX Cloud — the update feed is authenticated, so a signed-out Mac never sees new builds.

  • It checks shortly after launch, then again every 4 hours while the app stays open — a Sunday's machine is on for hours, so this is enough to catch a build published mid-morning.
  • When an update is staged, a small card appears in the bottom-right corner: "KERYX <version> is ready to install."
  • Click Restart to update to quit and relaunch into the new version right away.
  • If you don't click it, KERYX installs the update automatically the next time you quit the app normally — you're never stuck on an old build for long.
  • Your library and settings always carry over; updates only replace the app itself.

Warning: Auto-update only runs on a properly signed build. An unsigned or dev build (or any install older than v0.3.0) falls back to the manual path below instead.

#Manual updates

Some builds (unsigned/dev builds, or installs from before v0.3.0) can't use the signed auto-updater. For those, the same bottom-right card instead reads "KERYX <version> is available" with a Download button:

  1. Click Download. KERYX downloads the new DMG to your Downloads folder and opens it automatically once it's done.
  2. Drag KERYX into Applications to replace the old copy, then relaunch.

You can also skip the in-app banner entirely and grab the latest build straight from keryx.samuraicode.ai/download whenever you want to check manually.
