Running the service

Companion

Control the live output and edit the service plan from a phone or tablet on the same Wi-Fi.

The companion is a phone/tablet web app for running the service from the room instead of standing at the booth. This page covers turning it on, connecting a device, and what it can (and can't) do.

#Turning it on

Go to Settings → Companion:

Setting What it does
Companion server Turns the companion on or off. The description here reads "Run the service from an iPad or phone on the same Wi-Fi."
Status Shows the address to connect to once the server is running (e.g. http://your-mac.local:3777)
PIN A 4–6 digit code a device must enter to connect
Port The network port the server listens on (default 3777)

#Connecting a device

  1. Make sure the phone or tablet is on the same Wi-Fi network as the Mac — the companion only works on your local network, not over the internet.
  2. Open a web browser on the device and go to the address shown in Settings → Companion → Status.
  3. Enter the PIN and tap Connect.

Note: There's no in-app QR code — connecting means typing the .local address into a browser. Once connected, the device stays signed in for 12 hours before it needs the PIN again (or immediately if you tap the ✕ sign-out button in the companion itself).

Warning: The companion connection is plain HTTP with no encryption, by design — it's meant for your church's own Wi-Fi, not the open internet. Repeated wrong PINs from the same device are rate-limited to blunt guessing.

#What it can do

The companion has two tabs, plus a sign-out button.

#Live

This is the remote control: Now and Next labels with a slide position counter, a big ← Back / Advance → pair to move through the service, Black / Logo overrides with a Clear button once one is active, a Scene row (Camera, Slides, PiP, L/3rd, Overlay, Holding, Soon, BRB, or Auto) matching the desktop's stream layout controls, and a tap-to-jump list of every slide in the current position. A status bar at the top reads LIVE or DISCONNECTED so you always know whether your taps are reaching the desktop.

#Plan

Browse your Services list and open one to see its running order. From here you can add a + Song (search and tap one to add it), + Scripture (type a reference, pick a version, add), or + Blank item, reorder items with the ↑ / ↓ arrows next to each one, and remove an item with its ✕.

#Limits

The companion is a remote control and a light planning tool, not a second copy of the desktop app:

  • It can add songs, scripture, and blank slides to a service — it can't create a new service, import media, create or edit a song's lyrics, or build announcement slides.
  • It can reorder and remove items, but can't edit a song's this-service arrangement.
  • It has no access to Settings, streaming/recording controls, or the media library beyond what a song or scripture add needs.
